RI Fishing Report Written by David H. Monday, 24 August 2009 15:09 RI Fishing Report Hurricane Bill all but stopped fishing for the weekend. Hopefully the high tides and the wave action have brought in plenty of oxygen rich water. The striped bass fishing at Block Island has slowed but skillful anglers have been landing some nice fish. I went tuna fishing with Dave Parente, Jim White and Mike Baccari on Tuesday. We saw plenty of bluefin tuna topwater but they were moving fast and not biting. Jimmy saw a huge blue marlin all lit up as it was chasing down two 40 pound mahi while he was in the tower. We only caught one 20 pound yellowfin but had a great day nonetheless. I made sunomono with the belly loin and grilled the top loin served with some homemade wasabi mayonaise. I heard that the tuna bite picked up on weds. Billy Silvia caught bass, sea bass and scup at the humps off Poppasquash Point late last week. Jimmy White's customers caught 15 stripers in the mid bay with 5 keepers casting shallow diving lures aboard White Ghost Charters.
