Striped Bass are in The Cape Cod Canal
This week Donald Lescault and Cecine Curci fished the Cape Cod Canal at night. There were large bass smashing herring topwater but they could not get them to hit any of the lures or soft plastics. We have all had days or nights like that with bass or blues breaking water around us and not taking anything we throw at them.

Striped Bass reports this week showed larger fish being taken at the herring runs locally.
Narrow River produced two 14 pound stripers along with a lot of schoolie bass from 12 - 26 inches. The Narrow River benefits form a few factors. Narrow River is home to a winter over striper population, it also has the Gilbert Stuart Herring Run. Those two things with a a good tidal flow often make early fishing there a safe bet. I have fished north of the bridge at Bridgetown Road, the narrowing of the river there is very productive. People also fish Middlebridge , Sprague Bridge and the Mouth of Narrow River. Narrow River offers good access for canoe and kakak fishermen. Fly fishermen tend to work the channel from the sandbar on the ...

Captain Ron's Party Boat Raritan Bay Excellent Striper Fishing today!!! « on: April 03, 2012, 07:49:02 PM » Amazing what a little change into the NW wind from the North of yesterday will do for the bite!! Started out clamming, had a slow one, one, pick going, not enough to feed all the hungry customers aboard so we left to find the mother load! Glad we did as the gannets were hitting the water, the fish finder was alive with life and the bite was on!. Switched up from clamming to jigging. Krocodile Spoons and Shads were the hot set up as the fish were feeding on Bunker and herring. We have a new big pool leader with a beautiful 23 pound fish which also took the daily pool today. Can't wait to get out tomorrow!!!! Video tells ...

Belmar NJ Party Boats are Fishing For Spring Striped Bass
Trips for striped bass, the first of the year for the fish aboard, sailed Friday and Saturday on the party boat Golden Eagle, a report on the vessel’s Web site said. On Saturday “the fishing was hot!” the report said. Most anglers aboard that day limited out, “(and) the keeper count was high,” the report said. The stripers averaged 30 inches. On Friday striper fishing aboard began slowly, but a few anglers on the trip limited out, and some bagged one, and shorts were released. “Much better bite (aboard Saturday),” the report said. “The bass are here!” Nothing was reported about Sunday and today, so maybe winds ...

Ed Akkaway landed a 44-pound striped bass to be weighed in, said Jimmy from Julian’s Bait & Tackle. Ed clammed the fish at the Belford Flats. “Now, you know that’s a bunker fish,” Jimmy said. Anglers might not have been truthful about where they caught stripers or on what, but stripers were boated and surf-caught on Raritan and Sandy Hook bays. They were also boated and winged from the surf on the ocean. Winter flounder fishing was very good on Saturday, after the season opened for them on Friday. But it wasn’t good on Sunday anywhere, from locally all the way to Point Pleasant. Flounder locally were caught on the river, but a few were taken on the bay at the Ammo Pier.

Raritan Bay NJ Spring Striped Bass Action
New Jersey STRIPED BASS: Breaking open in the back of Raritan Bay for boaters by trolling plugs, casting Tsunami Shads, and chumming with clams. Capt. Lou Grazioso and Doug Stone did well today in the middle of the bay despite the fog. Shore fishermen have been scoring with clams at night from bay shorelines. Rich Swisstack of Cliffwood said he's been doing best on the lower parts of the tide, which is the opposite of the normal situation. The first few stripers are hitting clams in the surf, and boaters may find working birds in the ocean to guide them to bass.
