Striped Bass are in The Cape Cod Canal

This week Donald Lescault and Cecine Curci fished the Cape Cod Canal at night. There were large bass smashing herring topwater but they could not get them to hit any of the lures or soft plastics. We have all had days or nights like that with bass or blues breaking water around us and not taking anything we throw at them.

Raritan Bay Bass fishing has been hot

Reports of good striped bass fishing from shore and boat anglers in Raritan Bay. Shore anglers have been catching with bunker chunks, clams and sea worms. Boat anglers have found trolling with umbrella rigs very effective.

Connecticut Rivers are very productive

Striped bass anglers in the Connecticut River have been catching stripers on umbrella rigs as far north as Middletown. The Housatinic River has been producing bass consistently. Jetties at the mouths of CT river have kept Tautog anglers happy. Green and Asian Crabs and sea worms have been the best blackfish baits. Striped bass are taking pogey chunks and shallow divers in herring and pogey patterns as well as shad bodies.

Narragansett Bay Striper Action
Recent winds have kept boaters confined to Upper Narragansett Bay and the Rivers. Van Oung and friends caught their limit of 8 keepers trolling 9ER's Umbrella Rigs in the Seekonk and Providence Rivers. Shore anglers have been catching both striped bass and squeteague in Greenwich Bay. Spring bass fishing in Greenwich bay is usually focused at Chepiwanoxet Point, Sally Rock and Apponaug Cove.
Squeteague are usually caught on sea worms but will take bucktails, and jointed lures too. Brandon Hagopian and Justin Fisette both caught keepers in Greenwich Bay this week.

Squid Fishing is Underway

Reports of Squid in Newport, Jamestown and Little Compton

Where you find squid you are likely to find bass feeding on them. Spring squid run usually brings some nice bass to the areas that the squid congregate. Fort Getty is an excellent spot to jig for squid and fish for striped bass at the same time.  Hook the live squid a few feet under a balloon and cast it out on a surf rod with a bait runner.
